edit: should have elaborated, sorry. Traditionally in many places, spiders crawling upwards is signaling heavy involvement in crime.

Settoletto 🍤@fed.dyne.orgOPMto Original Internet Tech & Culture@fed.dyne.org•Destroying the planet is fine but throwing soup at a box is category 1 harm to society2·7 months agoyes, well… i personally wouldn’t assume any political orientation based on platform preferences. as for the reaction, it doesn’t surprisee me: it’s part of the mainline narrative of young people being “foolish narcissistic clicktvists acting out for social media klout”. Which i personally don’t belive in. In some cases it might even be rooted in frustration arrising from the lack of attention brought upon other, perhaps more elaborate and constructive, ways to tackle the issue.
There might be better ways, i’m no judge of that, but the one rmployed by this young people for sure enables discussions and exchange, which are not always positive maybe, but the world of ideas is a pot that requires to be stirred up.
Settoletto 🍤@fed.dyne.orgOPMto Original Internet Tech & Culture@fed.dyne.org•Destroying the planet is fine but throwing soup at a box is category 1 harm to society51·7 months agowho’s to say they don’t do all of that as well? I have no idea. Do you? What i know for sure is that there’s no media in picking up rubbish, though i agree there should be.
Either way, i set the title the way i did on purpose, to me it’s not so much about the value of the action in itself, rather about the absurdity in calling what they did a “Category 1 harm to society”. If you think they are childish, then i suppose the lesson here is that childish stuff is category 1 harm to society.
Settoletto 🍤@fed.dyne.orgOPMto Original Internet Tech & Culture@fed.dyne.org•adding "udm=14" to the search URL to de-google google2·7 months agoThat IS a nice feature, !w for wiki !bc for bandcamp etc… I had good faith in this project. I made a lot of noise about it when it came out. To the point where they “rewarded” me with my avatar showing up blinking alternately with 🙌 emoji, right where the DDG logo is, if anyone queried for one of my nicknames. I’m not easily going to be doing something like that ever again. 😞
Settoletto 🍤@fed.dyne.orgOPMto Original Internet Tech & Culture@fed.dyne.org•adding "udm=14" to the search URL to de-google google4·7 months agoI don’t think DDG is an alternative (basically bing in a trenchcoat), but your point is valid.
oh, wait, i forgot about all the sharecare non-pirate bears that just upload good stuff for the careshare… you know, that other 3/12 of the catalogue…
The service where they crowd sourced 2/3 of their catalogue from “sharecare” pirate bears?
Sure, but what gets me is it appears the judge based the sentence on this… “Testimony”. Don’t get me wrong, death sentence or whatever is the USAian milder version if maximum sentence is despicable and I wish it upon no one. It’s just spooky as fuck to see how new tech is swaying old farts in power.
