World News@lemmy.world•Woman fined £150 for pouring coffee down drainEnglish
66·24 days agoThis story is really poor and badly reported, as it doesn’t explain WHY the Environmental Protection Act 1990 has these fines in place and why what this women did was wrong. Instead it’s a clickbait story that implies the woman is a victim.
That has already been explained in the article. 👀
Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 makes it an offence to deposit or dispose of waste in a way likely to pollute land or water, including pouring liquids into street drains.

3·29 days agoSo… the six you linked there all look nicely-produced, but also, just about as ‘manga’ as they could possibly be… without actually being Japanese comics-produced. And yet, that’s just how a lot of modern comics are, right?
Yes, webtoons with a manga style are easier to find and also more popular nowadays.
I mostly read webtoons in manga/manhwa/manhua art style, only a few that are not ‘manga’. but that was several years ago.

World News@lemmy.world•Indonesia free meals programme under fire after thousands sickenedEnglish
4·1 month agoIt isn’t the free-meals-programme that’s the problem, it’s the implimentation of it that’s the problem.
It’s already a problem since begining, costing up to 1 trillion rupiah or 60 million US dollars per day. And the money flows to high-ranking officers and officials through foundations that have kitchens that cook free meals.

2·2 months agoWell, Northern India is located within the ITCZ, which increases the risk factor for heavy rainfall.
The ITCZ is a belt of low pressure near the equator where trade winds from the Northern and Southern hemispheres converge. Its movement northwards towards India during summer brings moist winds and triggers the monsoon. The position and intensity of the ITCZ significantly influence the amount and distribution of rainfall across the country.
