In Morocco when they sacrifice a sheep for Aid (Eid) all the men in the families just take the sheep to the roof of the apartment block and hack at the sheep with a blunt knife until it dies. None of these guys know what they’re doing and the other sheep watch their friends getting hacked up while they wait their turn. I’ve never seen it myself but I’ve got a friend who’s been a couple of times and she says it’s brutal.

Football@sopuli.xyz•Owners treat many WSL clubs as ‘an afterthought’, Angel City’s co-founder says
1·4 days agoI hate to say it but they would wouldn’t they. You can’t expect it to suddenly be up there drawing the same crowds. Men’s football didn’t happen overnight.
I used to know a guy in the UK Conservative Party (nice guy actually) and he told me that there was an expectation of them to maintain good relations with the US Republican Party, even though they had far more in common with the Democrats.
Wait and see. He’s centre-right and used to be in the same party.
Do American men not look after their kids?

2815·5 days agoNo point getting upset about this, it’s inevitable. So many FOSS programmers work thanklessly for hours and now there’s some tool to take loads of that work away, of course they’re going to use it. I know loads of people complain about it but used responsibly it can take care of so much of the mundane work. I used to spend 10% of my time writing code then 90% debugging it. If I do that 10% then give it to Claude to go over I find it just works.
if it was as bad as she was making it out to be I’d be pretty pissed off too. It’s probably not though. Loud music very occasionally is okay but I’d expect it to be turned off around 10/11 unless it was a very special occasion and I’d been warned in advance (and invited). I doubt the smell of weed is that bad. They shouldn’t be handing out alcohol.

Warhammer 40k@lemmy.world•Question About Moving To a Different PlaceEnglish
4·7 days agoI wouldn’t take them in the plane, that sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Can you share where you’re going? You will need to look into how customs works. If they’re over a certain value they might need to be declared and it might not matter how much you paid for them but rather how much they’d be judged to be worth in the country you’re travelling to.
I lived in a third world country for a while where some things you couldn’t get locally were really expensive, even if they were cheap at home. I imported some costume jewellery which I paid £23 for and the locals wanted me to pay £100 for it to be valued and I was told it would likely be valued around £200 so I’d have to pay import tax at around £80. I just let it get destroyed as it wasn’t worth the cost or hassle.

Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•foreign ownership of oil and gas in africa
1·9 days agoAll the oil and gas in Morocco is owned by the state. Morocco is big on solar, being one of the sunniest countries in the world, but Shell don’t have a hand in that. There’s phosphor in the south but the big international companies aren’t allowed to touch that as it’s occupied territory according to the UN.

Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•foreign ownership of oil and gas in africa
5·10 days agoThis must just be showing only companies owned by foreigners. I know in Morocco they have way more petrol stations than just Shell. All the service stations on the major roads are owned by the mayor of Tangier.

theNetherlands@feddit.nl•Can a company ignore my cancellation email?Nederlands
10·15 days agoWhy are they requiring an additional two months? If their website is broken send them an email, block the payment, screenshot the broken website. They could try to enforce that but the likely wouldn’t stand a chance. EU law says it can’t be more difficult to cancel a subscription than it was to begin one.
I think the point around them wanting a couple more months is a key point though. Why are they expecting that?
