  • People more strongly engage with messages spread through their network of peers.

and this spread is also strongly mediated by their algorithms, the closest people who they would actually show it to are the ones i can much more effectively talk directly to and skip the malicious middleman altogether.

executives from Meta gave workshops teaching how to use AI and achieve greater reach on the platform.

this is true, but that’s very far from the reason they are so effective, and is happening since much before AI. beyond the bots they were proven to be paying for, the main difference lies in the actual amount of spending money they have

or how a fascist propaganda outlet owned by brazillian comprador oligarchs spent the most money in that 4 years for boosting content on facebook, topping even the government itself. there was an abrupt shift in the regular joe political opinion because of it and us tech imperialism is widely recognized as the root cause, as briefly alluded to in the article you linked yourself.

leftists making slop to propagandize quicker (they already are, and assuming otherwise is condescending at best) barely makes a dent, and whenever they do meta will quickly ban them, here is another prominent case btw.

i don’t blame you too much for having this one completely upside down though, between all of this many brazilians are lost too.

online social networks and platforms controlled by big tech companies are geopolitical structures increasingly aligned with the far right.

all that to say basically read more into this part of this quote instead 👆

I’ve yet to see that. Social media like reddit

leftism is constantly banned on reddit whenever it gets too much attention. having a place they won’t be banned from is one of the reasons the admins made lemmy in the first place. and a lot of subreddits being closed there end up on leftist instances right here.

i have never seen successful botting campaigns from the left on reddit or meta products aside from sad attempts. exemplify one i can learn from if it exists.

i mean in the literal sense.

they are constantly deleting accounts of left wing politicians in my country, and went as far as blocking all left wing profiles for a while when they knew they would go viral because of recent happenings.

google and meta lobbied (and succeeded) for blocking a law that would make fascists accountable for their lies on the internet, and it’s common knowledge here youtube will push fascist, christofascist and generally conspiratorial right wing slop aggressively.

google took millions from actual fascists to push extremist propaganda in their search results. shit i could go on a bit.

in this case the one-sided foreign right wing propaganda is pushed by themselves. i don’t know how exactly they conceal this in the US, but i hear leftist content creators constantly complaining about similar shit online. mainstream social media platforms are very explicitly fascist, and run by fascists.

they would never allow such botting for left wing ideas like they do fascists.
