I don’t see why someone studying 20 years to be a doctor and performing 10-hour surgeries has to earn the same as someone who, say, earns a living in a less qualified position or who just wants to work less, communism isn’t when everyone gets the same. Equal opportunities hopefully, as much as possible, but definitely not everyone getting the same necessarily.
vovchik_ilich [he/him]@hexbear.netto chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•mf keep telling me to read theory but i am living it.English17·3 months agoCommunism isn’t when everyone gets equal, it’s just a system in which there aren’t two classes, with one owning the capital and the other having to sell their labor power as a commodity while being exploited.
Misanthropy and socialism don’t go well together IMO. My desires of social justice and betterment of living standards for everyone aren’t that compatible with misanthropy, at least in my opinion. What makes you a socialist then?

The propaganda apparatus is omnipresent and STRONG, it’s been perfected over centuries, and it accompanies us from birth to death.

Chinese policymakers (who for the most part have compulsory study of Marxism) at the time must have been with eyes wide open like “no fucking way this is actually happening bruh”
vovchik_ilich [he/him]@hexbear.netto news@hexbear.net•Trump signed executive order to place 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada, 10% tariff on ChinaEnglish13·4 months agoHonestly, it may be dumb economically, but it’s also important for states to show they won’t be manipulated easily, even if it hurts your own country too. It’s a principle of international relations, that of reciprocity, and I don’t think it’s super dumb.
vovchik_ilich [he/him]@hexbear.netto chat@hexbear.net•How do you sleep when you don't want to be alone with your thoughts? CW:Suicidal ideationEnglish3·4 months agoI personally like camping videos. A channel called Tahta Rikzy Origma has some chill ones in some southeast Asian country, always in very dense and green forests; another one called Kusk Bushcraft has vídeos of camping in forests in Canada. Both help me a lot to sleep when I’m stressed out.
vovchik_ilich [he/him]@hexbear.netto chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•Anyone else fearing a giant media purge and restructuring is coming?English15·4 months agoAlbert Szymanski, I think in “human rights in the Soviet Union”, discusses a framework of oppression, in which he explains oppression as a tool that states apply when they feel like they’re at risk of losing popular support. This has a lot to do with how powerful and influential a state is, the power of its media vs media of other countries, and importantly, the living conditions of people inside vs outside.
The West™ has, for the past century, had the luxury of showing itself as the paradigm of social progress and freedom, because it had the economical advantage and therefore the strongest and most omnipresent media, and people could see that they had better material conditions in many cases than in other countries (at least in terms of income, not so in welfare depending on the country). Things are changing. Since 2008, living standards in Europe have plunged, social services have been cut, and the rise of China with yearly increases in both GDP and earnings of 5%, make Europe pale in comparison. The only way the state apparatus in the west will have to make citizens believe they’re still the best, is through oppression, and in China we’re seeing / we will see the opposite trend.
That’s my guess anyway

I will never understand how these pragmatist cold warriors allowed for the deindustrialization of the west in favour of China.
