People in my field often joke that when it’s time for recurrent training, that’s when you get the most stuff done around the house. Anything to avoid studying!
I’ve never seen that scent before! It sounds pretty neat.
May 13th, 2025: Afternoon Delight
I did a few strokes on a 10k to get this thing back in action, and it seems to have worked great.
Today was spent at the RC airplane field doing a bunch of “spring cleanup” and flying. We did lots of work on the grass runway, stowed the plexiglass enclosure now that it’s warming up, did some painting, etc. I got a bit of a sunburn, but hopefully it’s not too bad.

May 12th, 2025: Near Wedge
I’m still in the process of restoring this Joseph Rogers & Sons near wedge that I bought for $5. Of course I then spent about $12 on Dremel attachments to clean the blade up, plus all the time sharpening, honing, stropping, etc… but for $5 this razor seems to be an absolute bargain.
It didn’t pass the packing-peanut test made famous by @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social, but it wasn’t tuggy at all. In fact, I might even go as far as saying this has been my favorite straight razor shave to date!!!
This shave really surprised me, because after honing it last night I was certain that it wasn’t ready to shave with… but I tried it anyway and man… I’m smitten.
I recall they called their single note scents the Basic Witch line, if you didn’t know that.
Which sample?
No pressure. I figured just 'cause you’re busy doesn’t mean you should be left out. Enjoy the smush either way.

That reminds me, I need to write the “Backups” section of the wiki so you don’t lose all of your work when my computer crashes 😁
May 10th, 2025: Fast
This was a rushed shave so I could get out the door for a last minute overtime work shift. The Era Lvl 3 has long been a super favorite of mine, but this Lvl 2 is hot on its tail. Super nice.
I don’t know why iOS has to suck so hard, but copying and pasting the SOTD text from my SDS results in the line breaks being removed. If I didn’t need this iPad for work I’d sell it in a heartbeat.
Oh cool. I just ran across Baserow and ran with it. I did at Airtable and saw it had limitations on rows. It seems like Airtable is probably more capable/polished/has fewer bugs, but Baserow seems to work great and it’s open source, etc. Self hosting still locks down a lot of features without a subscription, but row limits isn’t a problem.
Maybe I’ll peak at the other ones you mentioned.
May 9th, 2025: Travel Shave
I really like this tester base from Fanzine. I bet his updated base is even better!
Making the SDS has been a fun learning experience. Yesterday I started learning a bit about git. Being able to pull and push files with git simplifies the workflow a lot, but I’m still getting comfortable with it.
Synbad buddies. One of my favorites.

Man, this is such a good soap base. So slick.
I’m not up to date on the current market, but I have Ikea blinds that are battery operated which I control from HA. The batteries are rechargeable, and the batteries themselves have micro-USB ports for charging.
One option would be to buy these, see what kind of charging port they come with these days, and try to make some physical modifications to jam a USB connector in there. From there, you just have to figure out the solar part. A lot of solar charge controllers have USB ports which should work to charge the battery, but they are clunky and you’d have to mount it on the wall probably.
For what it’s worth, the batteries in these shades last quite a long time… Looking at one of them, I last charged it in September 2024, and it’s still at 72%. It goes up/down at least once a day I’d say.
I found the hidden message.
I love Malört
