  • I don’t disagree - the media does have an implicit bias… but rarely do they cooperate directly with a campaign. Donna Brazile was fired over how overt it got.

The Sanders/Clinton primary was an example of how powerful dark money can be in campaigns and is a terrible portent of how centrists can create an uneven playing field where money rather than policy or appeal will dictate the winner.

I’d clarify that nothing the Clinton campaign did was illegal - but they absolutely prevented us from having a fair election.

  • I’m not certain, since war is never a logical escalation it’s hard to predict when it will happen.

Putin may drag his countrymen into a war simply out of political self preservation but Russia cannot win against Nato. Russia can bomb the shit out of western countries and launch nukes but in a purely math sense it’s like Germany in WW2 it would be doomed to failure.

I hope we don’t get WW3 anytime soon and cooler heads prevail - I hope Putin is just bluffing and remains sane… but we’ll see.

China absolutely has far too much to lose, I think war with China (even with Xi being a fucking hot head) is highly unlikely.

  • @See VPC, VPN, LAN, etc…

Corporate intranets (intranet essentially being “internal network” while internet is essentially “global network”) have existed for a long time.

But there are intranets all around us - everything on your side of your router can be treated as a local intranet and you can even set up a local DNS server (this is commonly used for ad blocking and I believe pi-holes use this technique though they might just use address blacklisting).

So, TL;DR you already do! A hacker is you!

  • Since this article is about pedantry I’d like to point out that I believe you meant to reference Socrates not Aristotle there - Socrates believed that education came through dialog and committing words to paper made them “dead” and open to misinterpretation. Socrates was essentially afraid that people would read words of his and pick apart technicalities so he preferred to teach people orally and then have those people teach others.

Plato may have committed some of these conversations to writing after the fact, though Plato may have also just used Socrates as a mouth piece to express his own idea. I’d classify both Plato and Socrates as chill… Aristotle on the other hand absolutely lacked any chill.

Aristotle wrote a lot and wrote it to achieve political gains - his philosophy was the one primarily embraced by Western Europe and is deeply flawed with a lot of extra built in misogyny (Plato was relatively progressive but still has some built in misogyny) and other bullshit. We do have surviving writing as notes from his students but most of his writing is actually his own.

  • In 1992 Alladin came out - wearing blackface in a costume for that was definitely not the norm. You’ll find tens of thousands of pictures of kids dressed up in poofy hats and sweeping pants whose parents knew not to face paint them to be more accurate (and these are kids who’d get facepaint to dress as the lion king or a ghost).

It may be that it was just Boston Massachusetts being a haven for the political correctness but if you know anything about Boston you’ll probably know we have a long sad history of being racist assholes (especially to PoC, Italians, Irish, Germans, Catholics… even Native Americans! So I guess pretty much everyone).

I’m happy to admit there are areas of the US where blackface is still normal… but I think the adults are still aware of how problematic it is.

If this is America/Canada while it could be carrying more people the sad truth is that it’s probably carrying half a dozen people because it’s likely going from one unwalkable neighborhood to another. Especially up here in BC there’s a stark difference between downtown buses running between unis, skytrain and the dense core of Vancouver to the ones you’ll see in a suburban hell like Burnaby.
