    Other than being pretty (which I fully admit is already a benefit), is this actually doing any good for the environment? Isn’t that just grass?

      It helps with air pollution, noise reduction, sustaining a healthy urban ecosystem, and, depending on construction, may also help with water and heat management.

      Green walls are a similar initiative, I think most of the functional appeal is shared with this kind of project.

      This type of thing frequently reduces the heat island effect of parking lots due to the shade, provides some level of plant life for insects and maybe birds, and reduces the amount of water runoff from the lot by absorbing some of the rainfall.

      It is greater than zero, but since it is just grass it is mostly just the shade and water runoff mitigation in practice. Both of those only apply to a small portion of the lot as well.

      It does significantly benefit the cars and the drivers, far more than any environmental positives.
