Do I need to be able to read the horse-text to understand the joke?
No. It’s pretty much just a visual gag strip playing on how horses have long faces, and the common trope of bartenders asking their customers why they’re sad. So horse guy passes on some news that makes the bartender sad too, thus giving him a long face.
I thought the horse was sad because he’d been cursed to be a horse, and by telling the bartender, the curse spread…
That’s also a possibility! Art!
Riiiiight. I didn’t pick up that the bartender becomes the 2nd horse at the end, or that the whisper text itself was irrelevant. Thanks for explaining!
