Well they offer subscriptions for Realms, which is essentially just private server hosting (likely for confused parents) and the Bedrock edition has microtransactions. But Java edition is probably the best $20 I’ve ever spent in gaming

Thanks for not making me write that part out. Additionally the microtransactions are blatant in bedrock and stuff is intentionally confusing (like adding a non mojang minecraft server). It is blasting you with shiny stuff to buy all the time. I truly despise bedrock.

Hence why my kids don’t play Bedrock. Oh, and it doesn’t work on Linux, so I’d have to reboot into Windows for them to play.

So we play Java because it’s easy for me to set up a local server, I can install mods, and it works on Linux. If Bedrock worked, they’d probably play more with friends stuck on consoles.

Awesome! You‘re my kind of person. Congrats to your principles!

Btw, you can make a bedrock bridge. I have one of those. Works flawless. Then your kids can play with all their friends.

I’ll have to look into that. Their friends wanted to play once, so I installed Bedrock and everything and then they flaked. But maybe I’ll try again so I’m ready in case they want to play again.

Huh, so it’s like a small proxy server that bedrock clients connect to? So I’d host a Java Minecraft server, and they would connect to my proxy, which connects to the Java Minecraft server?

That’s pretty cool! I assume it works fine for consoles? My kid’s friends play on Xbox and Switch, so they’d need to be able to enter my bedrock server info.

Yes, its very easy. The proxy is kinda virtual though. You dont have to do a thing. Drop in the plugin, amend the config file and thats all.

You people sometimes say the judgiest shit 🤣

      Confused parents 🙄

Most parents just don’t want to play tech support for their family and have $10 a month so they don’t have to.

Lol sorry, I did not mean it in a judgy way. I just figure most parents don’t know or care enough about Minecraft to host a server themselves but I’d probably do the same thing in their shoes

        How is it judgy?

The fact is most humans couldn’t set up a server.

Most humans couldn’t repair a car.

Most humans couldn’t perform an angioplasty.

Most humans can’t play football at the professional level.
