I know it is a silly joke, but hermit crabs would not take a house that is too big for them. They are looking for the right size. But of course they are growing, so at some point they need to find something bigger. Which leads to interesting chains of switching shells like this.

Billionaire crabs, nice. Oh no wait, these allow the lesser crabs to have their leftovers, so even the crab world uses socialism:-P. (/s btw, I’m only going for the funny here not saying crabs actually use that, or don’t, I simply do not know:-P)

Yup. Or they simply don’t care what happens after they abandon it:-D.

But how many people would buy a bigger house and donate their older, unused one to someone else, especially someone who outgrew their older one (to the point they could literally die without that sun protection).

It must be so freeing to both have stuff but not worry that everyone is trying to steal it, bc others have enough.

Humans meanwhile are playing games - the abstract number in a bank account somewhere doesn’t even matter, since it seems more about feelings of power and control:-|.

We are dumber than crabs. 😂 😁

Pratchett has hermit elephant’s in one of his books (I think reaper man). It’s not uncommon to wake up and discover you’re surrounded by a small wandering village.
