    Federative social media is also not new, I switched to the first 2011 (nearly 13 ago) and there were a lot of people around my age. Even those who were 16 back then are 29 now. And that was 5 years before tiktok started. ActivityPup itself is younger, it was standardized 2018, but it is based on pump.io that was released around the time tiktok was. It is connected to the communities and devs of the older networks like diaspora (2010), gnu social (2010), friendica (2010) and mediagoblin (2011).

    Traditionally those networks replaced facebook and twitter. There isn’t anything on the fediverse yet that replaces tiktok and it’s hard because videos are comperatively big in size. Peertube alreay had difficulties taking off and it’s biggest instances are for alt-right, conspiracy theorists and gore, so mostly groups who have no other place to go.
