Feel welcome to use this post for testing purposes, feedback on the instance and to say hi!
Since the playground model wasn’t really that good (it prevents users from making things their home), I’ve decided not to announce this instance to be in playground/testing mode. Instead, i’ll simply try to make it work and hope that it won’t become an administrative nightmare.
However – things are looking quite good so far.
In the background i am currently trying to determine whether the current location is powerful enough midterm, if not, there will be a quick and quiet maintenance to move the thing to a more fitting place (looking at the potential upcoming wave from Reddit). Also there are some smaller things in the background still being worked on, but they shouldn’t affect users.
tl;dr have fun, if everything goes well, this will be a permanent place for people to enjoy – i hope. 🚀
Also check out https://join-lemmy.org/apps for apps and stuff.
Hallo und merci!

seems to be working now!

Nice grumpy cat.
Looks just like in our garden!
Hey everyone, I’m just looking at Lemmy for the first time. I’m still slightly overwhelmed 😁 But I had that at the beginning with Mastodon too. 😅
welcome! yes, first impression can be overwhelming but it usually doesn’t take long to get used to it. i even have the thing open in my phones browser sometimes which i rarely do with any site. :)
Thanks for hosting this! Looking forward to participate in the communities here.
Just Hi everyone.
I arrived by the flight from reddit. It was all right, no major turbulences, landing was smooth. And for once security didn’t make me loose 3h at the airport.
Wonderful! Have a nice stay!
Lemmy definitely has a bit of a learning curve compared to reddit, but hey, nothing is free. Interested in seeing how this goes!
I’m curious about what #lemmy is or is heading at, and I don’t know reddit. We’ll see…
^Test comment. Ignore.^
Since Reddit is currently performing the Twitter-Musk stunt and wants to have the API for third-party apps gold-plated, I have to give Lemmy a try.
Thanks to @milan@lemmy.ml for the opportunity.
Thank you for this instance Milan !
Thanks Milan for setting this up! Works now from Jerboa for me :)
🎊

Kein Ahnung…Mal schauen
welcome!
Hi, I’m a first time lemmy user. It’s amazing what you set up at tchncs.de and I must say I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. Thank you.
Same here. This is a whole different world.
Strange thing: I can login on the iPad on Safari, but not with Firefox browser. No error message, just a rotating wheel.
change your password to a <60 character password and try again, for some reason this bug only affects firefox as well
My password is long, but not in that region.
strange indeed as i am on Firefox as well…
hi, i think i found the cause, firefox login doesn’t work for me when having a long password (tried 128 chars) as the login button just infinitely loads, but for whatever reason on other browsers (tried brave) i’m able to login fine with the same credentials. When changing my password to a <60 character password i was able to login via firefox.
I was able to reproduce this both on desktop, and mobile (android), as well as on multiple lemmy instances and not just tchncs
When changing my password to a <60 character password i was able to login via firefox.
Hmm maybe worth a bug report at …maybe the frontend: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui
Firefox from Debian notebook works well. Forget it, Firefox on the iPad is a cludge…
I got the rotating wheel, when I appended ‘@discuss.tchncs.de’ to the username.(Firefox Debian) Perhaps a hint to ommit the server part when entering the user name could be useful.
No, still doesn’t work, neither with username nor email.
or maybe it needed a refresh 🤷
No, iPad restarded, still no cigar.
Thanks for having me here. It’s quite unfortunate what happened to lemmy.ml and I don’t want this instance to face the same fate. I’ve been a tchncs user since the golden LSW days and had my first ever “fediverse” (diaspora) account and my first Mastodon account on here. tchncs really is at the forefront whenever it comes to federated technologies. Milan, you’ll get a fair share of donations soon, I don’t want this place to go away.
Have a test monkey!

Thanks for your kind words – Mastodon and Matrix survived, as of now i am confident that this instance will as well … i hope … 😅
