Serious question. Anyone here actually want a foldable smartphone? If so, why?!? I’ll never own one

I love my foldable and never see myself going back to a candy bar style phone again.

Narrower front screen makes for easy one-handed usage. Open it up to watch videos and browse pictures. Larger screen to draw, colour, and write on. Larger screen for consumption of text when needed. Larger screen for multi app usage.

I like the idea of having greater screen real estate, but see the product as prohibitively expensive. If it cost as much as a regular smartphone, I would consider buying one for my next upgrade.

I don’t see the point of clamshell folds. Phones that unfold.in a tablet however are just that: a phone that unfolds in a tablet.

Could be interesting with e-paper, but i’d rather have more battery/efficiency than anything else.

Yeah no shit they are the same volume. They fold to occupy less space in a pocket. You know what I meant.

My point is that they still occupy the same amount of space. Do you not know what I meant?

Your point is pointless because you know what I mean and you are just trying to be pedantic about it to troll.

My point is that your point is pointless since it doesn’t account for basic physics. Changing the shape of something does not inherently change the amount of space it occupies. The volume of the convex hull of the fully-folded phone will be the same as that of the unfolded phone.

Your perception may be that the phone is smaller when folded, but the reality is that it is not. I understand that you are resistant to this cognitive dissonance, which is why I’m trying to communicate it to you.

Have fun with your physics-defying new phone, I guess.

I was interested in the Flip for the smaller pocket footprint and protecting the screen while folded as this would fit with my work and lifestyle. However when the Flip model reached maturity they had put a huge screen on the outside of the phone, negating any chance of ruggedness.
