Romania has officially rejected a request filed by the Chinese telecommunications group Huawei, which wanted its equipment to be used in the 5G network in Romania, according to a decision published in the Official Journal.

The government explained that this decision was “based on law 163/2021 regarding the adoption of measures related to information and communication infrastructures of national interest and the conditions for the implementation of 5G networks,” Economedia.ro reported.

The law stipulates that communication providers will be able to use in 5G networks only technologies, equipment, and software from manufacturers authorized in advance by the decision of the prime minister, based on the approval of the National Defence Council (CSAT).

Why does everything seemingly need to be a dichotomy?

“Capitalism is not good for us.” - But Soviet Union was so bad!"

“Maybe we shouldn’t build our telecommunications infrastructure with technology from an autocratic state that is ideologically diametrical to our society” - “But U.S. spies on us, too!”

It gets boring. We. Need. European. Autonomy. For. Critical. Infrastructure.

Maybe you should do more research into what exactly the US government has been up to before trying to speak on the topic. Their practices aren’t any different from what the CCP does.

I did my research for my final ethics report (I’m also a cyber security engineer), and what our government does is abhorrent.

Maybe you should reread my comment until you get my point.

Yes, but I guess Romanians would prefer being spied on by the CIA rather than by China and its close ally, Russia.
