Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said the resolution was “exceedingly politicised” and contained an effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah

“This would free the hands of Israel and it would result in all of Gaza and its entire population having to face destruction, devastation, or expulsion,” Nebenzia told the meeting.

China’s UN ambassador Zhang Jun said the text proposed by the US was unbalanced and criticised it for not clearly stating its opposition to a planned military operation by Israel in Rafah in southern Gaza which he said could lead to severe consequences. He said Beijing also supported the alternative.

A diplomat said the alternative resolution drafted by the 10 elected members of the Security Council under Mozambique’s coordination could be brought forward for a vote as soon as Friday.

That resolution, a copy of which was seen by Reuters, demands an immediate ceasefire for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan now under way, the release of all hostages and an expanded flow of humanitarian help to Gaza.

Was confused by that headline but ig a “resolution” that greenlights an invasion of Rafah is less of a “ceasefire” and more of a “continue-fire”

Yeah its so badly worded i feel the post title deserves compensating for it. Many if not most people only read headlines, so titles like this are somewhat counterproductive i feel.

Yeah something like “Russia and China veto US-led UN resolution that would allow an invasion of Rafah” would be more accurate.

So apparently this was only a ceasefire for Hamas to release hostages. Nothing about the thousands of Palestinians “israel” has hostage, and would allow them to continue the genocide after Hamas gives hostages back. Algeria and Guyana also don’t approve.

Makes alot more sense now why the US proposed this.

      Where’s the ceasefire in this?

Oh I see it was a temporary “ceasefire”. Thank God Russia and China are on the council, even though they do have their own (very big) issues.

Oh look the deliberately faked “we care” stance turned out to be deliberately faked.

    EDIT:

A diplomat said the alternative resolution drafted by the 10 elected members of the Security Council under Mozambique’s coordination could be brought forward for a vote as soon as Friday.

See you all next week when the USA vetoes their 4th in a row.
