How can you think Russia is a ‘feel good’ place in any way? It’s a genocidal dictatorship with basically no regard for the lives of it’s own citizens that is actively murdering a countries worth of people for oil. I get being anti capitalist, but I definitely would not call Russia anti capitalist. Maybe at one point they claimed to be communist, but I certainly don’t see any of those ideals in their current government.

Theres a lot I disagree with in there but I’ll point out the one that is most fundamentally wrong. Nobody said Russia is anti-capitalist, not the person you responded to, not the original comment, not even the post, nor does anyone on this site. Anti-Imperialism is the primary reason we support Russia, they pose a legitimate opposition to US hegemony and any nation that pivots away from the US/Western imperialist bloc towards Russia is a net positive in the struggle against imperialism.

idk if “supporting Russia” is the best way to phrase it. Bearing in mind that Putin is himself a reactionary anticommunist, the projects that the Russian state engages in should be examined critically as ways that the semi/periphery can better position themselves against antagonism by core countries with the caveat that these relationships can also potentially be used to undermine popular people’s struggles i.e. Wagner mercs being invited to assist against principled uprisings.

But how is Russia trying to take Ukraine for their oil against their will not imperialism? What they’re doing is the exact definition of imperialism.

So, in theory, I don’t know a lot about modern day Russia. They are capitalist, and maybe they are practicing some imperialism, or would if the had the chance. But my focus has been elsewhere.

But I have learne a bit about this current conflict, and it goes back to 2014. There’s more reasons for Russia to get involved. Such as Ukraine shelling their own people who didn’t support the wests military coup, and those people being Russia-friendly, speak Russian, and possibly wanting to leave for Russia. There’s a lot more nuance. I recommend checking more info out.

Now me personally, I don’t care about Russia or Putin. I’m not a fan of the country, but I get why China, Africa, and others might partner with them. The wests military coups to oppress governments into handing over raw materials for poverty wages is just too consistent. For a modern example: niger and uranium and gold exports to France.

Everyone not in the imperial core have come to realize that NATO is not their friends, they are their oppressors. Partnering with Russia is a strategic choice.

My 2c, I don’t represent all opinions here of course.

I want to learn more about the thoughts of the people in this instance. Where would be the best place to make a post asking about it?

lemmygrad has a couple ask communities, c/asklemmygrad and c/askcomrades is a good place to ask open questions about this instance/communism in general. If you have more specific questions, there are region specific communities for china/north korea, etc. and some places to learn more about the history of the USSR and GDR and whatnot. Also you can peruse c/informedtankie and if you are really open to learning more about our perspective, the prolewiki is a great place to learn a lot very quickly: https://en.prolewiki.org/wiki/ProleWiki:Main_page (And if you think that a wiki called ‘prolewiki’ would be biased against capitalism, you can google how the CIA has been moderating wikipedia since it’s inception, a story told by a co-founder of wikipedia: https://www.azerbaycan24.com/en/cia-moderating-wikipedia-former-editor/|azerbaycan24, lots of media outlets have this story as well, so no bias here, just facts).

Last but not least, the c/comradeship (also called freechat) is where a lot of people spend their time, and you can ask questions there as well.

Hope this helps! I hope you learn we aren’t scary people, we have some memes/dunking communities, but when people ask real honest questions, we tend to respond in kind with real honest answers.

First of all, Russia is not much different from the west in most respects. It’s a form of capitalism that’s quite similar to US as even BBC admits, except it’s still hasn’t deindustrialized. However, in terms of actual working conditions and social services it’s far ahead of US. Meanwhile, if you think that the war in Ukraine is about oil then you’re utterly off base. This is a proxy war between Russia and NATO over whose sphere of influence eastern Europe is going to be under.

However, my comment wasn’t about Russia. It was about the Global South being liberated from western exploitation and imperialism. It’s not Russia that’s exploiting people across Africa, Lain America, and Asia but the west. Russia may be capitalist, but it is currently helping these countries shake off western oppression. That’s undeniable.
