After taking this photo they started bucking up like a horse, probably trying to scare me. I saw a bunch of them on a walk I took yesterday they were kinda all over. Was pretty big like the size of my thumb

That’s a female stag beetle. There is some info on them here.

I don’t know enough about beetles or bugs to know if this is true or not so I’ll assume this is what it’s called until someone says otherwise
Who would win, some nerd with a thousand hours in studying bugs with latin names or me with my weird brain zingers?
There honestly should be a children’s bug encyclopedia where kids get to name bugs before learning what their “latin/common” names are, just for funsies.
