People are increasingly alienated from their fellow humans, and as a defense against that alienation they are ascribing more and more importance to their companion animals. In some cases this reaches a point where it is harmful both to the person and the animal, as the person is unable to effectively care for the animal because they no longer recognize it as having the limitations and needs of an animal.
I think that’s pretty much what I was saying but much better worded. People with poorly trained dogs because they over anthropromorphise them are a product of alienation and atomization.
