Fuck Koichi Sugiyama.
Honestly his music wasn’t even all that great IMO. It was just kinda there, like the musical equivalent of wallpaper.
Aside from the overture his work just wasn’t that memorable, just… serviceable. Hell contrast the (arguably most popular DQ) DQ8 victory jingle with the one from FF7. Not even a contest.
Feel like Keiichi Okabe (Of Nier Automata fame) could do wonders on a DQ OST but I doubt they’d let the man cook.

Yeah, my friends and I became aware of his views a few years before he died thanks to his stupid takes on Dragon Quest music. The amount of influential positions this shit stain held made his death a cause for celebration.
