It always seems pretty telling that their reaction to anyone showing genuine empathy for immigrants and marginalized groups is that they must be a bot. It’s like they can’t conceive of such a thing.

Yeah if you look at my post history, someone gave a link from CNN of “Here’s proof Biden is doing what Trump wanted” and someone instantly went “You’re a Russian propagandist.”

I gave them links from NPR, CBS, and the New York Times. Nothing yet.

Even using corporate media they agree with isn’t good enough sometimes. Conservatives and Liberals both agree to only read their prefered news, and label anything proving their favorite politician is bought, sold, and a bigot, is a lie from the other side.

I didn’t recognize your name at first, but I actually saw that exchange and upvoted that comment! I rarely comment in those communities anymore for that reason. Most of the users there are alright, but there are a handful of unfortunately vocal ones who make it a real challenge to have a productive discussion.

They really can’t, if they want to keep believing they are moral people that always do the right thing.

If they accept that someone else might not be willing to tolerate the evil they tolerate, then by contrast they also would need to accept they are not as good as they thought they were. I’m definitely not explaining it well, but this is called being a Moral rebel.

And of course, it doesn’t help that the liberal mentality is very paternalistic, they have to constantly feel like they’re the only adult in the room.

I agree with you, and I keep thinking about this part of your comment. I feel like this is definitely one reason it’s nearly impossible to have a good discussion with anyone in liberal spaces. It’s like a constant stream of condescension that can easily devolve into attacks on the person’s ability, mental health, class, education, language, ethnicity, race, country of origin, or gender. I’ve witnessed it so many times.
