That’s pretty cool, I didn’t realise there were so many folks using controllers on Steam. I also absolutely love Steam Input.
I just want a steam controller 2 that’s basically exactly the same as the steam deck input scheme!
Saw a post today with the new “official” Steam Controller. It’s trash. None of the features that made the first one cool. Doesn’t even have rumble.
No, you didn’t. You saw a third party controller.
I guess the goal is to profit from confusion, and it seems like it’s working because even people on Lemmy are tricked by it. Consider the average consumer.
Tech sites say that it’s officially licenses by Steam, and it has the Steam logo on it.
Either they have Valve’s blessing on it, or Valve’s legal team is fuckin sleeping.
I assume we saw the same one but it wasn’t an ‘official’ controller, it was a 3rd party one specifically designed with steam in mind. Made by a company called Hori. Valve hasn’t announced another steam controller yet.
rumble is bloat
agreed. should be haptics.
Apparently the Horipad’s gonna be that. I think I’ll stick with the Dualsense.
Steam Input is the GOAT. If I’m playing a non-Steam game with a controller, I usually set it up to launch through Steam to take advantage of it.
59% of sessions are using Xbox controllers 26% are using PlayStation controllers 10% are on Steam Decks
Are other controllers registering as xbox controllers are do people really use them that much?
Xbox controllers work with windows with pretty much zero configuration. Either use USB or the appropriate receiver dongle. This probably contributes a lot to it’s popularity.
Also the older and newer style controllers likely all just report as Xbox controllers and the wired 360 controllers are dirt cheap
They work on some Linux distros with zero configuration as well. Mint being one of those.
(This is through bluetooth that I’m speaking of.)
That, and they’re simply the best controllers for pc under $150-200
Edit: corrected currency conversion error
Absolutely, I use one myself for that reason
What controller costs >$400?
My bad, on the fly currency conversion error 😁. Best under $150-200 is more accurate.
Based on the fact that they’re by far the best controllers for pc under $150-200, I’d say 59% ACTUAL Xbox controllers is plausible.
Edit: corrected currency conversion error
I have 5 Xbox One bluetooth controllers just for PC gaming
Okay, I have to ask - why five?
Some are custom ones with nice grips, but mostly for local couch gaming with multiple friends that don’t have their own controllers.

For those using an Elite controller, Bazzite handles the back paddles nicely (on Bluetooth in the Plasma version).
I just hope they make an upgraded Stram Controller.
I bought it when it came out. Been using it ever since. Still holds up and legit feels so great in your hands. I really have no idea what I will do the day mime breaks.
Title worried me for a moment that they were dropping Steam Input; happy to see they seem intent on the opposite.
