If everyone involved in your politics is an older, right-wing, white man with broadly identical politics - including your candidate - I wonder what that says about the status quo you’ve devoted your life to defending.

Biden was against integration of races in schools and has long supported policies that effect de facto housing segregation, he hasn’t done shit about abortion access rights which were lost under his watch, he’s at least as if not more brutal towards migrants than Trump, trans rights have been in a state of constant backsliding, and I haven’t heard a single word escape his lips about indigenous communities either positive or negative, and of course his exceptionally devoted support of ethnostate nationalist clients in Ukraine and Israel.

But sure he’s the hero of minorities.

will always remind people this person got $52,157 in covid-era PPP “loans” that were then forgiven by the government, which is a fancy way of saying the state straight up gave them $50k cash. anyway they then turned around and then shit on the concept of student loan forgiveness

IdPol seems custom-designed to be for wreckers.

If you have any idea of how left movements have historically split/faltered, the importance of maintaining a cohesive front – it’s like someone studied that history and designed the most cancerous ideology for the left.

it’s “for the left” in that basically nobody is raised a marxist, anarchist, etc, so most arrive at the actual left via first being a liberal and then seeing liberalism fail to accomplish the things it claims to care about. But they bring a lot of ideological baggage with them from liberalism, idpol being a part of that. It takes a decent amount of learning and reflection to overcome that inherited and come to an understanding of liberation and materialism that actually prioritizes those most downtrodden which idpol claims to care about, but in a way that doesn’t require you to treat identity as the end-all-be-all.

Although reading it again I think that they mean it is cancerous to the left when it gets in, not that it is a product of or for the left specifically

This is such a sampling bias on two counts:

    1. The media landscape is dominated by white people, men, and the combination of the two. Part of that is reflective of the baseline demographics - America is the cultural powerhouse of media in the west, most Americans are white, ergo most media figureheads are going to be white. Throw in a big helping of white supremacy and misogyny into the mix and whaddayaknow? It starts skewing even more towards white men.

    2. White (cis) men are gonna be more inclined to demand that Biden step down because, paradoxically, they still feel more represented by the Democratic party than a trans person of colour would since the latter is going to be have a much better chance of realising that the Dems don’t give a fuck about them, that they aren’t going to listen to them anyway, and because of this that person is going to be much more inclined to show interest in radical politics.

To call for Biden to be replaced is to express a personal investment in the Democratic party and to want them to improve.

Personally, I want Biden to stay. I want to see him elected, not because I believe in him or out of some misguided notion of harm-reduction, but because I absolutely do not have any faith in him and I think that a second Biden term would be catastrophic for the libs and it would push more liberals to radicalise.

This tweet is very smug and self-satisfied. They’ve managed to identify that the US is deeply misogynistic and white supremacist but instead of talking about that they are invoking these notions to silence the people who they disagree with rather than addressing the core of the issue so it’s tokenistic af. This argument has the same energy as the “socialism is all old white men” or the “telling people to read theory is ableist” canards - these things aren’t being invoked out of any genuine concern for these issues, they’re just playing these issues as a gotcha to “win”.
