It seems to me like all the stuff they’re doing with game pass and putting their shit on switch and playstation. Makes me think they’re poised to get out of hardware probably in the next 10 years or so.

They might offer some like streaming stick but eventually I think they want to just be a gaming service like Netflix is for movies.

I think we’ll get one more xbox console generation and the next console will probably be digital only as well.

This seems obvious to me.

Xbox was always a scheme for Microsoft to ensure Windows market share by making a console that uses the same game libraries as Windows. If game pass accomplishes the same thing, I don’t think they’ll keep around physical console sales (that they lose money on).

No if you think like a capitalist (shudder) I’m sure they’re only okay with hemorrhaging money on Xbox because of what they see as their long term goal, wanting to be the “Netflix of gaming”. When they feel they can still do that without Xbox, they will axe hardware in a heartbeat.

I think what microsoft wants is to have all games running on their servers and have everyone on earth paying them a subscription for the privilege of accessing them.

If they could have that, Yeah. I think right now their focus is on becoming the premier service to stream games via a subscription service.

The biggest blockbuster shooter franchise Is essentially a Microsoft brand now. You want call of duty? In the future on your Ps7 or whatever or PC, you’re going to need to download the xbox app and fork over that cash

They’ll just do what Valve did with the steam deck, and create some reskin of a stripped down / feature locked version of windows that is gamepad and tv centric, and sell that. That would be their cheapest option by far. Basically do what Valve tried to do with Steam machines, but I think Xbox could just brand them “Xbox” and it would be fine, people would buy them.

Yeah I think they’ll do something like that. Some little streaming box and then we probably are going to eventually see an “Xbox game pass” app for Nintendo and playstation consoles at some point.

It’s very telling they made the one for PC first. They knew what the end game was a long time ago.
