Pretty much all I know is Batman and Superman and I’m not in the biggest rush to read stories about a prototypical ubermensch or an avenging fascist. Wondering if DC has anything else to offer that’s good?
For clarity I don’t really like Marvel stories about an uber nationalist soldier in Captain America or a billionaire alcoholic womanizer in Iron Man.
Really enjoyed Watchmen, forgot to add that.
AFAIK, the really good stuff is part of DC’s Vertigo sub-line, like Transmetropolitan and Y: The Last Man.
Heard good things about both. Reading more about Vertigo and it sounds like the good stuff is all on this imprint line.
Sandman and its spin-off Lucifer are great. Can’t fucking believe they did my boy Carrie like that by turning Lucifer into a fucking police procedural.
DMZ is good, too. I enjoyed Fables but it’s definitely not as good as the other series in Vertigo. The story and setting are there, but the writing isn’t Gaiman or Moore.
Thanks!
It really is.
Forgot those, they rule
I like Constantine
Can back, Constantine is pretty good.
Do imprints count?
Spider Jerusalem is the best comic book character imo. Post cyberpunk gonzo. It’s great.
stuff I actually read and can say is good: Planetary, Transmetropolitan, The Flintstones
I’ve only got bits from it, but I loved Section 8, which is a sequel to Hitman. That man’s artstyle is absolutely gross and I love it, so it’s no shock the Last Podcast dudes commissioned him in the past.
But yeah, it’s been cool seeing characters like Dogwelder trending again, though I guess a CW for anybody that wants to learn about dogwelder.
Thanks
Sandman slaps.
My cousin’s favorite comic and he’s a major marvel slop head so it must be good.
For comics in general I really like Strangehaven by Gary Millidge and Black Hole by Charles Burns. They both have really strong Twin Peaks vibes. I wish there were more non superhero comics being promoted at all, cause I like the medium a lot. Just hate the only genre that sells in thst medium.
Fantastic artwork, especially the covers and it’s not superhero stuff, it’s sort of it’s own built mythology and a bunch of stories within it. Too bad it turns out he’s a sex creep cause damn can Neil Gaiman write
Kingdom Come.
Also look into Dark Horse Comics, they do smaller, more interesting series.
Batgirl volume 1, Alan moore stuff is in general pretty good like swamp thing and V for vendetta, Also grant morrison stuff is good like all star superman, Gail simone’s Birds of Prey is good too
