They hate Muslims way more than they hate Jews and a solid half of them think this is a prophesied war that’s going to bring about the apocalypse and they’ll go to heaven because they’re Christian.
Been discussed, but I have serious doubts that even a large plurality of them believe that this will bring about some culmination of scripture. The simpler explanation is that the conflict is viewed as historical colonialism in miniature, and, having no skin in the game in this particular instance, conservatives naturally defend Israel, as it is a parallel defense of racialized Hierarchy that defines their worldview. (Also, relatedly, in the postwar period, Jews are (not without justification) seen as victims of recent history, and because support of them doesn’t question the systems of racialized Hierarchy or Inequality at large, it’s easy for libs and moderates to have come to a pro-Israeli position.)
It’s not so much of a sincere belief but moreso their idea of in-group loyalty. To them, both “its da jooz” and “Israel can do no wrong” can be true so long as it advances their interests, they need not think about the deeper meaning. They’re like good soldiers, they do what they’re told, shoot first, then ask questions later.
Something something redsails article about elites and masses.
You’re telling me the majority of republicans are in favor of Israel? Surprising. It seems a little… uncharacteristic
