Notably, the words the author focused on are all considered offensive now. If a more liberal person were to look for transgender porn, they may not use those terms.
Absolutely this is why the data looks this way. I bet if they looked at searches for “trans woman”, “trans man”, “mtf”, “ftm”, etc, the charts would be reversed.
Also, people searching “femboy” mostly won’t be looking for trans content at all, just… femboys (cisgender men who express themselves in what are traditionally feminine ways).
Yup. TL;DR…
Search terms for the list ranking include only: “shemale”, “tranny”, “femboy”, and “ladyboy”
Exactly.

To be fair, they also do the same with… well everyone. They like a strict hierarchy with straight white married christian cis men at the top.
Who furthermore wear suits and ties (rather than e.g. t-shirts and sandals) and kiss up to those “above” them, while looking down and calling names the ones “below” - e.g. scientists who studied covid, engineers who made the vaccine, doctors who administered them, even people who received them, etc.
The closer you get to the top, the more the pyramid has to narrow down. The white poor people have no idea just how much e.g. Donald Trump loathes them, despite being caught on camera saying exactly how much. They think “bc I’m white, I’ll be fine”, and that lunacy affected us all.
I wonder what it is that drives that hate.
Social pressure; an Orwellian Two Minutes of Hate.
Just want to acknowledge the the writing and title choice in the article itself are annoyingly smug, but the data analysis itself I found interesting.
Always found it weird. The ones who hate us the most are often the ones who fantasize about us the most :<
The comments are all assuming that it’s the same people that are viewing this content and promoting hatred. It may not be - even the reddest areas still have 30%+ blue voters (and vice-versa). Although the implications of that would be equally noteworthy and confusing.
Genuine question: could this data be affected by the location of VPN exit points?
Keep in mind that many red states have attempted to essentially ban online porn with their overbearing age-verification laws. A savvy internet user would be less likely to pick an exit node in a red state, given the choice.
If anything I would expect vpn exit points to be located in higher density areas where presumably internet connectivity is cheaper, and higher density areas tend to be more liberal
Absolutely a possibility. Depends on how often people are using VPNs, whether there’s a distinct difference between political ideology and VPN usage, and the average distance to a VPN exit point. I think it’s fairly safe to assume a similar distribution of VPN usage across political bounds and generally speaking geographically distributed fairly evenly, with perhaps major cities and higher educated areas using VPNs slightly more often but with the exit point also being closer to the true point of access.
Not just VPN, but geolocation in general. I am in Ohio, but I am often geolocated as being in Chicago due to my ISP. Similar for mobile.
What a surprise!

Oi, just a heads up as you don’t seem to use it in a negative way, but
slur
tranny
is considered a slur these days. Calling someone trans or transgendered is preferred.
“The More Red You Get, The More You Love Trans Porn” That’s just effing hilarious!
of course. you have to know what to stay away from and not to do. duh.
In addition to the other caveats mentioned, searching “femboy” on google also doesn’t 100% lead to looking at the nsfw version, but I can see the correlation and I have also never heard of “ladyboy” and “shemale” so I (assuming good intent) assume they have to do with pornography.
spoiler
ladyboy and shemale
are both older derogative terms for trans women
Nope.
Ladyboy is Kathoey. It’s a Thai English word for a 3rd gender group.
My understanding of the word comes from how I’ve seen it used in American culture. I’m not enough of an etymologist or a sociologist to accurately claim where the term itself was first created or how prevalent its various uses are and will gladly defer to others with more expertise. Thank you for sharing the wiki article for those who are unaware of genders outside the binary in different cultures 💜
That is the true etymology and meaning among people who know, but it is now used as an anti-trans slur by the American Right, who do not know its origin.
