Please don’t downvote posts in this comm because you think a ban was justified. That defeats the purpose of this comm.

If a ban is justified, then there is (pretty much by definition) no power tripping, right? So I feel like it definitely makes sense for this community to downvote if the ban is justified.

no this just buries the post and doesn’t transfer the info, that this is why the downvote was cast (and not, say because it’s off-topic). We have text votes for this, check the sidebar

Ah okay - I will say, the community name is a little misleading. The name makes it sound like it’s for exposing power-tripping mods, but the sidebar suggests it is for asking whether a mod action is justified or not. Perhaps a different name would be more appropriate.

It’s both. Ultimately it’s to point power overreach, but these kinds of places have a habit to turn toxic, so I’ve structured it in a way which promotes constructive dialogue instead of ranting.

I can agree with this, people bellyaching about being censored for hate speech, trolling, or just being evil people isn’t helpful, if anything it devalues the community since people will just see that and assume that it’s just a complaining community, not a place to share legitimate and objective mod abuse. It’s bad enough that Lemmy’s culture has a very strong bias devaluing the judgement and opinion of individual users, it would honestly be preferable not to make that worse than it already is.
