    Explanation: The Flemish urban militias, made of common-born folk (though not peasants - artisans and skilled laborers), had a peculiar melee weapon they were fond of, called the ‘Goedendag’, meaning ‘Good day’. Presumably, the French knights who faced them found their own day a little less fantastic by its introduction.

      I only know about the Goedendag because it’s one of the weapons in the Battle Brothers game, and since I can speak Dutch I always thought it was funny that the weapon’s name is pretty much “good day” in modern Dutch.

      So this is pretty interesting for me and cheers for this piece of History!

      You got me excited when you said wooden plank with nails in it, I thought you meant the classic zombie game weapon:
