    Hi Hexbear Dunkers,

Thank you for calling me out on the misinformed, small-minded, and frankly awful comments I had made about the Ukrainian conflict. I am significantly out of my element talking politics, especially eastern european politics.

I appreciate everyone who responded to me, even if they were just pointing out how ridiculous or foolish I am.

I’m going to engage in some self reflection and figure out my motives for making uneducated comments on the internet.

An inflammatory user that posted a bad take, apologized, then kept posting bad takes and being inflammatory - but now other users jumped to their defense, due to them apologising once. They would often copy-paste the same response to several users that made the mistake of taking the time to answer them in good faith. Due to this one of such responses became a meme “power dynamics”.
They were around for a few months and created a ton of strugglesessions

They kept repeating the same copy-pasted response to users that took the time to engage with their arguments in good faith. I have no idea wether they were right or wrong, because they entirely failed to respond to these users, instead just answering “power dynamics”.
Right or wrong, I think that should be mocked and critiqued

The thread started from a reference when Hasan Piker dated a 19 year old intern at TYT when he was 26 years old. The thread was about how appropriate age gaps were in relationships, with the implication that people who date or have sex with people younger than them are quasi-pedophilic. This is because the elder in the relationship has significant life and social experience to manipulate and exploit younger people, or manipulate their partner through financial dependence.

Hence, the power dynamics of the relationship make it inappropriate and leans into sexual predatory behavior.

(On my personal opinion, however, I’ve met people and children of such people who have an age gap of a decade or more; those couples or their parents met at 25/41, 28/56, 31/44, or 22/35. Because of that, I think it matters more of the emotional maturity, financial independence, and social stability/connections outside the relationship of both people involved and those relationships tend to have nuance to it. I would agree that it’s inappropriate and creepy for people to date legal teenagers after the age of 23-24 though.)

Here is the thread in question if you want to take a peek: https://hexbear.net/post/233800

Thank you for this comment, it is very much appreciated. I apologise for the hostility in my responses. Though the idea that Ukrainians should willingly fight to the last in a lost cause is reprehensible to me, I could have found another better way to communicate this with you.
We could all do with some self-reflection, none of us are all-knowing and being confronted with the fact that one is misinformed can suck.
If you are interested in knowing more, or just interested in these discussions of news and politics in general, I’d recommend you to check out the hexbear news mega. Disagreement is welcome - Though the disagreement should be based on solid analysis. Plenty of people in that thread are very anti-russia, critical of Russia and supportive of Ukraine.

You don’t have to agree with everything we say, but over here our discussions are rooted in trying to understand the current affairs of the world through their historical contexts and through material analysis (that’s what Marxism is all about, FYI - historical materialism) rather than buying into either side of the propaganda.

A lot of Millenials and older are likely anesthetized to the hysteria and bloodthirsty nature of war, the lies pushed to drive the state into war or through proxy, and the demonization of the other by virtue of witnessing the US turn viscerally angry and irrationally exuberant for violence from 9/11 and the leadup into the Iraq War.

That war demonstrated the complicity and surrogacy of the media as mouthpiece for the state and power, and served only to amplify and not question the calls for war.

Whether we are working backwards from our conclusions about our politics is ambiguous, but what is certain is that we do try to use primary sources for our understanding of the world as to avoid gaslighting ourselves from what state propaganda tells us.

Thanks for the welcome. I’m actually interested in media sources I should check out, specifically around the russia-ukraine conflict. History, analysis, commentary, etc. Anything I find from Google or YouTube (also Google 🤔) is couched in the same exact narrative.

Early on one of our members was keeping an update thread going with sources, that was very helpful, but at certain point it was dropped as the conflict kept going on. Id post this question in the askchapo community and I’m sure you’ll be innundated with sources lol, we’ve got some well informed comrades on there
