I never “radicalized.” I’m simply a Canadian whose idea of the social contract remained unchanged while America dragged the Overton Window to the right.
When the Overton Window moves, it doesn’t stretch. Thus, while previously unthinkable ideas become acceptable to explore, others shift to become “radical.”
If you feel the same way, don’t ever forget that we aren’t radical, it’s literally the collapse of American democracy and the looting of its economy that’s radical.
American oligarchs did that. Regular folks deserve some shame for not organizing and resisting harder, but I hope people abroad understand that.
To equivocate, I’m a guy who left America years ago because it’s so bad there, and I don’t see it getting better any time soon. I still vote, and I still don’t think most Americans are bad. I just have a lower threshold than most for “fuck this I’m out”.
Don’t worry, we know. It’s note like our oligarchs overseas are any different in essence, and our own Overton’s window has also been pushed towards the far-right by their medias.
