I am looking for some plants ideally edible or other uses, that can grow indoors.

I tried tobacco, pythaya (dragon fruit), aloe. But it doesn’t grow well or I have to wait very long time to have something from it.

So what is your go to indoor “useful” houseplant?

I heard of this plant called marijuana that’s supposed to be pretty useful ;)

Seriously though, if you have a sunny window in your kitchen, lots of herbs are pretty nice to have on hand. Basil, oregano, thyme. That kind of thing. Just snip off what you need when you’re cooking!

Hm, maybe an avocado tree? Takes forever, but once they start producing fruit they can be really handy. Your best bet would be to find one that is already well established if you want to see results soon.

This isn’t practical at all, but I’m growing some monstera deliciosa in the hopes that one day it will produce fruit. I really want to find out what it tastes like, they’re supposed to be amazing.

Pac Choi (Chinese cabbage)- grows quickly, especially the baby Bok Choi varieties, and it makes great stir fried. From seedling to eating is about 45 days.

Edit: it needs nutrient rich soil and full sun (from a UV plant light)

I’ve grown some scotch bonnets, coriander and a few fruit trees from a seed but not with very much success. My lime tree was rescued by my sister, the mango by my step-mom.

The only one I’ve managed to not kill is the dragon tree I have but apparently they purify the air a bit.

I grown several plants of the dragon fruit from seeds. The one that I gave my mum looked after few months that it needs my life support, mine turned great and the one that I gave my grandma is huge. So yeah various success.

Half the plants I’ve grown seem to always catch some sort of a bug that I feel like wasn’t my fault, but I usually say a plant has survived despite my loving care.

Coffee seems to grow well indoors and it’s also a beautiful plant. If you want blooms and beans though you will want to buy a more mature one. Can take years to reach blooming size.

Lettuce grows so fast and so easy. If you’re looking for indoor herbs/veggies, I’d recommend an aero garden or other hydroponic set up. Everything grows pretty quickly and easily.

To add to that I have a garden so tomatoes, herbs… are grown there. Also unfortunately the plant mentioned there (made a ontments few years back) is on my garden and I couldn’t get rid of it.

So I am looking for something that could be grown only indoors in my area central Europe.
