I think Occam’s Razor is the best solution. He didn’t expect to get away with it so easily. There wasn’t a plan after the act.
I mean I would agree, although the way he phrased some diary entries points to him having more targets, just that this was a perfect “first” victim.
Applying Occam’s razor would make both of OC’s explanations equally as likely.
You need to accept this dude isn’t the criminal mastermind you want him to be, I think.
I don’t believe his plan was to get caught at all, maybe he had other targets, maybe he didn’t, but he was caught because he made some bone headed mistakes.
