Yea, think it’s personal preference, if you like to use their webapp or standalone client. Haven’t tried any of them. So feedback would be nice.
Does it just reencode the SD mp3 into FLAC or does it actually pull the FLAC from the HiFi stream?

Try opening it up in Audacity and doing a histogram over frequencies. MP3 files lack a lot beyond the 16000 HZ range, while FLAC files preserve the higher frequencies.
