Hello users of Hexbear, there have been many changes and some drama the past few months.

The recent changes we’ve been making have been an attempt to create a more safe and welcoming environment for many demographics that have been overlooked in the past.

For any of our comrades that have been unintentionally hurt in this process, we apologise and hope to find a solution that accommodates as many people as possible while still meeting the needs of the marginalised groups who need a space like this the most.

The intent of this post is to provide a space for all users to air grievances with regard to the site. As well as provide suggestions for specific things that could be changed to address your grievance. Comments insulting the mod team or those without a specific means to address your problem may be removed. No commenter will be sitebanned, unless it clearly breaks the code of conduct.

Exactly the lessons we learned from the recent mistakes are that we need to involve the community in decision making, improve transparency, assume good intentions with hexbear accounts, and slow the fuck down

assume good intentions with hexbear accounts

I know I’m a goober, but I genuinely think this is the crucial ingredient that has been desperately lacking the last few months

not just with the admin/mod team, but with most users in general tbqh. people seem so ready to assume the worst of each other, and it has been heartbreaking to watch.

honestly feel like such a fool for thinking the CoC actually mattered to most people, because when it comes to any sort of friction whatsoever, it goes right the fuck out the window, and who gets slapped for it seems to be entirely dependent on which mods happen to see the reports first.

probably should have figured it out when I saw reports getting publicly ridiculed when I was on my previous account, but I am a little slow sometimes.
