During the Second World War, American animation companies such as Disney and Warner Bros. made propaganda cartoons for the war effort. One of the most well-known examples is “Der Fuehrer’s Face”, featuring the famous Disney mascot Donald Duck. It satirises the authoritarianism of Hitler’s Third Reich by showing Donald having a nightmare about manufacturing shells for the Nazi army, and contrasts it with the “freedom” of the United States when he eventually does wake up from it.
