danish government in crisis mode: “how dare him to think we want to charge him over greenland when we’ll give it for free?”
The EU should stand united against the US right now. Not because it’s okay for them to own Greenland, but because the people of Greenland are more threatened by the US right now and the EU may be the only effective deterrence from an invasion.
How exactly do you envision the EU being an effective deterrence against the US exactly? The EU is completely dependent on the US militarily, and now that EU won’t trade with Russia, it’s also dependent on the US for energy. The US has the EU bent over a barrel at this point.
The EU would have ally itself with China. It is a difficult choice, you have a fascist oligarchy who funded Israel’s genocide on one hand (US) vs a communist country that built 40000km of HSR, countless solar panels, the most affordable electric cars in the world, and now a ton of nuclear power plants. I can’t tell which country is worse 🙃
You’d think this would be an easy one, but here we are.
they’ll choose the u.s., because (who rules them are) white.
Military dependency is not everything… there are other things, where USA is dependent on Europe.
But, I guess right now, nobody can tell what is going to happen next…
there are other things, where USA is dependent on Europe.
Please elaborate… Last I checked, other than imposing imperial interests for the US’ behalf, I can’t recollect a single concrete thing that the US needs the EU for.
So, there is ASML (only company that makes lithography fur sub 4nm chips), pharma industry (many Europe companies/universities RnD are essential for that industry), science as whole is very strong in EU.
Additionally, many trade routes are managed from EU / switzerland. And big investments ate taken by European entities.
Who do you think has more leverage in this relationship, and what stops the US from simply poaching the talent from Europe as the economy there collapses?
Imagine thinking you can ‘simply poach’ the talent from Europe. The US is far from the only country skilled migrants choose, and it’s looking less and less attractive to be a resident by the day.
If the economic situation in Europe continues to deteriorate then people with the means to do so will leave. They might not all go to the US, but that’s not gonna be a small consolation to Europe. The only other real alternative is China because nobody else is funding this kind of research and technology development right now.

Denmark only had a crisis meeting, which just means they have an unscheduled meeting in the government. The country is not in any crisis mode.
They are shitting themselves in Copenhagen over the Trump Greenland crisis. The Danish regime is increasingly paranoid that some leak, some unscripted comment could anger their transatlantic overlord. Initially the regime was projecting national unity, giving confidential briefings on the crisis to the leaders of all parties in parliament. However, since the infamous phone call the regime has retreated into its shell, sharing its secrets with only the leaders of a chosen few “government-bearing” centrist and right-wing parties, the ones deemed loyal to atlanticist orthodoxy and who can be trusted to keep their mouths shut.
Leaders of business as well as unions has received confidential briefings as well, so they can brace for the coming storm of Trumpian tariffs. However, the regime has told the public very few details about the Trump phone call and only mentioned the American supreme leader’s tantrum by saying that he “can be very direct”.
On her Facebook page (her preferred line of communication to the public) Danish leader Mette Frederiksen has posted that the regime “can’t tell everything or make statements as quick as other people”, telling the public that they will be kept in the dark until the crisis is resolved.
There has been no official defiance of Trump. Instead, the regime is groveling, their fear palpable as they scramble to prove their loyalty to Washington even as Trump’s boot hovers over their necks. When a fascist Danish MEP told Trump to “fuck off”, voicing the feelings of most people in both Greenland and Denmark, the Danish regime scolded him for being irresponsible, afraid that he might poke the bear.
Meanwhile, it has been hinted that the regime and the “government-bearing” parties has talked behind closed doors of giving Greenland a more equitable relationship to Denmark, of sweetening the deal to keep the colony loyal to Denmark. However, these efforts might end up being a day late and a dollar short as the uncomfortable truth about Trump’s claims that Denmark is being racist to Greenlanders and has failed to develop the island is that they are not exactly false.
Greenlandic elections are coming up and independence is going to be a major issue. Committing to Danish overlordship is not something many Greenlanders desire. Meanwhile, the Danish regime’s attempts to woo Greenland are being further hamstrung by domestic reactionaries raging over economic grants to Greenland and boiling with white supremacist rage at the thought of Greenlanders having the audacity to desire freedom from Danish rule.
Trump’s threats has triggered a profound ideological crisis in Denmark’s political elite. They are completely unprepared to deal with being in the crosshairs of American imperialism. For generations they have been telling themselves that “America is our closest ally!”. They believed America to be their protector, their friend and they turned Denmark into one of Washington’s most obedient puppets, a loyal lapdog by even the most sycophantic Western European standards. But now the protector has become the predator, and the Danish political elite is utterly unprepared to deal with it.
Sounds interesting but how do you know all this? Just a theory of the current vibe?
There is a little speculation in his text, but most seem to be public news.
Biden destroyed the Middle East. Trump will destroy the West. One bad thing cancels another.
Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden. Not just Biden.
True. They are all war criminals but only Biden is guilty of genocide
European leaders, if they can even be called that, abandoned even the pretense of a rules based world in their eagerness to serve as obedient vassals. By supporting the blatant violation of international law in Gaza, they shattered the very principles that could have shielded them from the same fate.
Europe has actively dismantled the very institutions that could protected it from the predatory ambitions of stronger powers. By embracing “might makes right,” Europe has forfeited its moral authority when the same logic is turned against it. The US will exploit the current state of European weakness mercilessly, reducing it to a dependent appendage, stripped of autonomy and dignity.
Europe stands on the precipice of its own century of humiliation that it’s marching into with eyes wide open. It’s is no longer a player at the table of global power, and now finds itself on the menu.
💯
I don’t think Europe’s naked hypocrisy w/r/t Gaza really factors in to Europe’s table vs. menu status.
In the grand scheme of things I agree, the US wouldn’t have respected European sovereignty either way.
With regards to supporting Israel, at first it was fine (since the last attack) but how they can continue to support a regime conducting genocide upon Gazans is beyond me. However, in many UN calls for the conflict to end, it was ever only the US that voted in favour of Israel. I don’t think they abandoned the rules, its just that a rules based worked order is only as reliable as those who enforce it
It does seem to me that a rules based world is not viable (for now) because none of the big players actually follow the rules. Ex: China for a while has not followed trade rules and subsiquently neither has the US (since they became scared of China’s rapid development). With trump 2.0, the world policeman is starting to look very fascist which is not a situation any EU leader could have fathomed a decade ago.
If anything, the EU has been trying to bolster the EU as an entity inorder to protect itself. It’s just not everyone in the EU agrees on that course and due to the unanimity requirements, things just can’t change. Since the end of WW2 Europe has been a vassel for the US and even until now that’s not markedly changes even if it’s gotten a little more difficult with the creation of the EU.
That being said, if the EU cannot finally get their shit together then I agree with your last point, they will be eaten alive by the US and China
At no point was the genocide in Gaza fine. People have a tendency to just arbitrarily pick a point in history, such as the October 7 attack, and ignore everything that led up to it. The crimes against humanity have been going on for decades, and the west chose to look the other way.
That’s very fair, I wasn’t clear enough that I meant it was fine to support Israel in the fact they are allowed to protect themselves. Every country has that right.
Unfortunately, the Israeli’s have gone crazy with the leeway the west has left for them. It’s also funny that though the EU supports Israel overall, they still send lots of aid to Palestine cause they recognise that Israel is destroying that part of the world
So, Russia has a right to protect itself in the territory of Ukraine that it occupies too then?
The territory they occupy in Ukrain is not theirs. They literally gave it to the Ukrainians during USSR era.
Similarly to how the land Israel occupies is not theirs either
After WW2 they were given some land. Of course the powers at the time didn’t give a shit that Palestinians were already living there which is why we are in this mess today.
But if you look back to what happened to the Jews during WW2, it’s no wonder they were given something as a “sorry this happened to you, here’s some land you wanted”. I’m not saying it’s right (definitely how it panned out is not) but given that was their wish it’s not surprising it happened. It is very ironic that they have become the very beast that was persecuting them
Denmark / Greenland should expel the US personel in Pituffik SFB. They clearly harbor a 5th column from a hostile country on their soil.
One of the most basic rules of projecting authority is that you should never make threats that you’re not willing or able to follow true with. If Denmark told the US to end their military occupation of Greenland, the yanks could very well choose to simply ignore those orders, making it unbearably obvious exactly how paper-thin Danish sovereignty over Greenland actually is.
If Denmark told the US to end their military occupation of Greenland, the yanks could very well choose to simply ignore those orders
This already happened multiple times between 1941 and 1949, in 1949 Denmark became part of NATO and stopped or was stopped from further complaining.
Hey Mr president, you know I got to play the bad guy role. Are u ok with that? The other big boy where the do the khorovod dance already did it with Ukraine.
We’re all waiting for the last big boy on other side of the world who is coming down with huge fireworks and FX on all big cities, we’ll laugh hard
