Brazil had an Onion clone that published satirical news, when the news were actually funnier than their version, they would just go and publish the real news.

It’s a way to tell if you’re living in some kind of extremism. Satire is meant to hyperbolize reality to highlight uncomfortable truths in a way you can vent about it through laughter (really struggling with my english here, but I hope you get what I mean). If it’s nearly impossible to do so anymore… you’re screwed.

The satirical news made too much fun of fascists. Now the fascists take the opportunity to ruin the satirical news. That is the long con.
