Congressman Al Green and fellow Democrats began singing the civil rights song “We Shall Overcome,” after the House voted to censure the Texas lawmaker.

Green was given the rebuke for heckling and waving his cane at Donald Trump during the president’s joint session of Congress. Ten Democrats joined Republicans to vote for the censure.

still pretty amazing that no other democrat stood up in protest, to support this brave man, in face of a fascist, so terribly shameful, they wore pink instead and talked about it like they were doing something

At least some Dems stood by him and sang along in I guess protest of his censure. It’s not enough but it’s far more than pretty much any Dem has been willing to do.

Ya know, I’ve heard people complaining that he did too much and was too loud, they didn’t do enough and none of it matters anyway. Instead we should be focused on the trump administration forcing a black man out of the room. This is the 21st century civil rights fight.

and I am focusing on how the rest of the entire Democratic leadership and rank and file, sat there, doing nothing, even after someone like Rev Green had the courage to stand, for right and decency, in calling out the fascist lies to his fucking face. fucking cowards. i won’t let the same of this go unspoken, which is precisely what they tried to do. you stand when called on, he did, they didn’t.

Why though? What good does that do? Focus on how awesome he is and how terrible the republicans were to him.

Democrats have no Constitutional power of majority in either house of Congress, or any of the 3 branches of US government, the only thing they can do is present themselves in opposition of the fascist disassembly of American Democracy, and there was no better opportunity to do that than at the speech on Tuesday night, and they failed miserably to show they would rise to the challenge of the moment, Reverend Green did, he placed himself in jeopardy, this is what spurs Resistance, the others wore pink and sat in their chairs, none rose to support Green. Abject useless Cowards all.

Again, what happened right in the whole situation? Al is a rock star and he got up and sang after the censure with a bunch of people. He’s awesome.

I’m beginning to question your intentions.
