thats funny because it also means “wheel” in german. you know, like a car?

To be clear, mucch like in Czech, the actual name for the vehicle is longer: Fahrrad / jízdní kolo, literally “riding wheel”.
But people omit the redundant part that specifies what kind of wheel when in context, such as “ride a bike”: Rad fahren / jezdit na kole.
