I didn’t know there has been ongoing drama like this. Damnit. Can’t believe how shady their behaviour looks like while promoting it as crystal clear FOSS alternative to Google Maps.
Honestly reading this open letter mentioning the history behind writing it doesn’t make me feel very confident that the shareholders will follow suit (except for Roman).
I hope OM is forked and that the fork gains momentum. I love OM but damn this letter makes me feel angry at the shareholders.
Glad to see that people are vigilant about these structural issues.
I’m a bit worried about the project as the last commit was 15 days ago.
And it seems like apart from Roman the two other shareholders haven’t even worked on the project (atleast on the public part) for almost a year really…
The positive side is that if it’s forked I have high hopes the volunteers will move to the fork. But yeah will be sad to lose the brand “Organic Maps”.
I’m just sharing this image that was sent to the Telegram chat it does not look good.
Roman is the only one that has positively reacted to the open letter… Thanks for sharing!
after reading that, no more donations from me
Ruin Organic Maps and we riot!
organicMaps navigation is clumsy compared to magicEarth. I was prioritizing oM over mE because i’m an idealist and FOSS is hope.
the day oM is clearly “for profit” is the day oM is ruined. It can’t compete with other for profit apps.
Oh no, not Organic Maps. 😔
I was just starting to get used to using it, too. Any good FOSS iOS alternatives people know about?
