Captured this stunning Sri Lanka Bay Owl with my Panasonic Lumix camera!

This majestic bird is known for its distinctive bay- colored plumage and haunting calls. Found in dense forests, the Sri Lanka Bay Owl is a nocturnal hunter, using its acute hearing and exceptional night vision to catch prey.

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, with its lush forests and diverse wildlife, provides an ideal habitat for this rare and elusive species.

Glad to have spotted this beauty in its natural habitat.

I personally love these little creepers, but some of you might prefer it in the dark! 😆

Totally! These guys might be a little creepy if they were big owls, but they are pretty tiny. If aliens were this big I don’t think we’d fear them all that much.

Ah, turns out they’re a little larger than I remember. I thought they were Screech Owl sized, but they’re just a smidge larger.

Sixth from the left on this chart:

22 to 29 cm (9 to 11.5 inches) in length
250 to 300 g (a little over half pound) in weight

I’m glad you like them! I feel we’re slightly in the minority with that opinion, but I couldn’t care less. They are so unique, not just for an owl, but for anything. Usually only sea creatures look so out of this world.

I would love to get to see one in person. I’m curious if they would look more or less alien. The screenshot I grabbed of the person holding it looks more 3D than most images I see of them, and that makes it look more “normal” but still amazingly cute.

It is super useful, and I’ve used it a number of times. The creator has picked a great variety of owls, and it’s a great visual aid for getting a sense of scale for some of these birds and the diversity there is when it comes to owls.
