Valve’s shooters be like
I wish we’d get another Left 4 Dead, and while I don’t feel like TF2 really needs a new game, it could probably do with a fresh coat of paint (like PBR materials).
If there’s one good thing that Back 4 Blood did, it’s remind me how good Left 4 Dead was, so I went and played that instead.
Remember Valve’s cardinal rule: We can’t count to 3.
Day of Defeat is beneath the pool
I spent more time on this one than any of the others.
DoD was the first FPS I ever played that had mouse aiming. That sounded dumb to me so I just camped in crowded areas with a machine gun and waited for people to run into my crosshairs.
I cannot aim and also have a crap mouse (don’t really want to spend money on anything gaming related) so I alternate between MG and nade runs. Small maps are great for nading all night long.
Goddamn, for real. Left 4 Dead 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, maybe even my favorite. Everything that’s there adds to the experience and is finely tuned and crafted. It just plays so well that it’s the only game that Ive played for over 200 hours and still go back to that has no meta progression whatsoever, aside from achievements I don’t even chase.
that has no meta progression whatsoever
That’s one of the reasons I liked it. Everyone has the same experience, there’s no FOMO. It’s just so pure.
I was among the millions to cry foul that LFD2 came out so soon after the first game. It seemed like it was just gonna be a $60 map pack.
But goddamn they brought their A game and really did improve everything about the original.
playing cs2 makes me REALLY want a left 4 dead 3 with this engine 😞
I like how Half Life is entirely missing 🤣
I mean, half-life recently got a new game. It wasn’t Half-Life 3/HL2:EP3, but it was more recent than L4D and TF2; which tend to be forgotten about until people start complaining.
When you gate it behind VR, most people aren’t going to play it. It’s also a prequel and wont address the cliff hanger ending.
Not going to lie, I haven’t played a competitive shooter in years, but I used to play the shit out of CS back in the day. I kind of want to jump into this again.
1.6 was the shit on every single LAN party when I went to primary school. Good times.
Now’s the time!
Indeed. I was pretty decent back in 1.3 days playing on a friend’s server who had a frickin T1 line at home. It was just as competitive play was starting to develop and there was no voice chat until Roger Wilco came about. That’s partly why I’m not a WASD guy. Gotta keep the fingers on the home row ready to type “I had sex with your mom.” not just say it.
Ah, memories.
Played some CS2 last night and it was death match rounds on Dust 2. Unbelievable how fast I die. I just can’t even…
However, the game did feel really well polished. Very snappy except for a few lag spikes. I started to limber up and even earned a positive K:D in one round. Well, for most of the round. I fell to - 3 in the last moments, but overall it was pretty fun. Don’t think I could hang in a regular match though. Too much time sitting around dead.
Well, the reason dying in death match is faster in CS2 is because now it’s FFA, pretty sure in csgo it was team death match.
So now everyone is out to get you, not just the other team.
I get that, especially when the map is fairly small, but I’m talking about the insane twitch reflexes and aim of these players. I feel like 90% of the time it’s just thp-thp! and I’m dead, from practically any distance, whereas I’m firing bursts and need a second or three to actually kill someone.
Plus AWPers are unreal. The crosshairs in the scope blur if you move at all, so I can’t fathom how these folks are so accurate, but there you have it.
I’m not calling anyone a cheater, just saying the average skill level is far beyond me. I still had fun. Gotta remember, it’s easy, just click on their heads.
These games are inherently competitive with an unbelievably steep learning curve, so people git gud, which drives off casual players, repeat ad nauseam. The only people who regularly play CS are either absolute masochists, or very good at clicking heads even if by that game’s standard they’re only silver or gold or whatever.
To be halfway decent at CS means that no singleplayer shooter will ever be a challenge to you again, because there’s no intersection between casual gaming and competitive shooters.
Don’t they have a mechanism for filtering you into games with people who have similar stats so there’s a bit of balance? Play a while and get wrecked until you fall down to your own level?
If you play ranked, which a lot of the people who get impacted by this don’t
Happy to see the game moving forward, and thrilled that so many players are happy about it. Idk why but CS stopped feeling like CS to me with GO. I’ll definitely try CS2 out, but I wish I was excited about it too.
Does anyone know if the custom server/maps community made a place for itself with GO? My peak CS experience (probably mostly due to my ages at the time, was 1.6 with the wacky custom maps, WC3 servers, super hero severs… And then in Source the zombie servers were so fun, especially the ZE (Zombie Escape) maps. Few things in life are as memorable as successfully escaping the mines of Moria from a hoard of player zombies.
I always loved the ‘surf’ maps
I sucked at those so bad! But I loooved the jumping puzzle maps.
Stoked. I like the new improvements. I’m happy to see this game moving forward like this. Been playing for over 20 years and I couldn’t be happier. After a few patches to tidy up loose ends, this game will leave CS:GO in the dust.
Yep, I still suck.
I like CSGO but I still wish they would cut out the gambling garbage, shitty buisiness practises in their games is one of the few truly terrible things about Valve!
Terrorists Win (the drip competition)
Looks like GO with a new UI.
I’m guessing there’s more to it, but that’s what it looks like.
They ported it to source 2
That’s it ?
No, there’s also a bunch of changes like higher tick rates and volumetric smoke grenades. It’s pretty cool
The volumetric smoke grenades look really interesting. I’ve only seen the clips on their websites but it seems like a great way to add a bit more complexity to them.
Sounds cool indeed, might try it
I have mixed feelings on it.
I like the improvements Source 2 has brought as well as the map-based ranking system.
It feels kind of rushed though. Many maps and gamemodes like arms race are missing and valve seems to have removed macOS support. The increase in graphical fidelity has caused performance to drop by half at least on my old-ass PC.
The lack of MacOS support isn’t new, that’s part of their Linux first strategy for a long time. They fear the Windows Store since it came out and Apples equavalent could be even more dangerous so they usually try not to support Apple devices properly.
Imo it currently plays like shit. Cs has a feel to it and to me, this doesn’t quite feel like cs. The gunplay hasa very specific feel and I just don’t get the same feedback when shooting on it.
Spraying feels awful as well. Meta at the moment seems to be burst, strafe, burst strafe… Performance is pretty dogsshit on my 5800X3D and 6700XT, get 3 seconds freezes randomly.

This is going to come off as ‘non technical’, because well, it’s my personal opinion of course… Anyway, as someone who’s been playing this game since Action: Quake, the gameplay just feels different to me.
The two things I can think of offhand with the limited play I’ve had so far (about 3 days now) 1) things feel zoomed out (I’m not quite sure how to describe it). I’m sure this has something to do with the vision/perspective of the new engine. 2) the gunplay itself, while having hints of CSGO/counterstrike, feels inherently different. Spray feels different, burst feels different. I’m finding single fire to be way more prevelent then before and headshots feeling different as well.
Again, my personal opinion and feeling of the game. Maybe it’ll grow on me with time, but similar to CS: Source, it just doesn’t feel the same currently.
To put it into perspective I guess, I felt that CSGO felt more like counterstrike (minus the guys and other technical issues of course) then CSGO did at launch.
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is removing CSGO from steam. Especially when CSGO had more features, it’s just a weird move. Why is Valve copying blizzard?
Also, the CSGO reviews now show up under CS2? Is it a new game or not? They shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.
After all this time, it bothers me way more than it should that you don’t aim down the sights.
Counterstrike predates that as a gameplay mechanic.
Oh I know. But every time I try to go back and play counterstrike it bothers me that I can’t aim down the sights and I really wish that was something they “fixed” in counterstrike 2.
Anyone know if you have to rewrite configs? Or is it easily transferred from the csgo config?
You can’t transfer it entirely, could even crash your game from my friend’s experience. Best pick out your most important commands, put them in an autoexec.cfg for CS2, and see what works and which commands have become invalid.
Some of these commands it says cs2 doesn’t even exist anymore. I wonder if that will be a problem in the future or if it’s just: “too bad, get used to it” mentality
I’m not gonna play it. i wanted a beta key, and they never gave me one. Oh what’s that? Your game is now available? Too bad I lost interest
I just hope VAC is back to working and they can finally get rid of the cheaters. CS:GO was unbearable, every single match, be it casual or competitive, had at least one cheater.
It’s definitely not every match, but okay…
I forgot that you could see through my eyes and experience my life, sorry…
Fuck off with your bullshit. A quick visit to the steam discussion forums and you’ll see dozens of daily posts about this. The only people who gain something by dismissing real concerns of cheating are the cheaters themselves – are you a worthless cheater?
It is a serious problem but at least in my experience not even close to every match and they disagreed with your statment with anectotal evidence just like your statment so cut off the mean wording, that’s uncalled for… Also it’s just a game so no reason to call some kids worthless!
If you can’t even play fair in a game, which has zero stakes on your life’s success, then that shows a lack of basic morals and indicates you are completely worthless, and probably a drag on society. So no, I won’t stop calling worthless scum worthless.
If you care so much about a fucking computer game your life is most likely a lot more worthless than any of these kids, cheating sucks but it’s no reason to call a human being worthless, especially not someone who is most likely a teen or kid pushing bunderies!
-
Counter Strike is a boomer game, most of the playerbase is made of adults. Drop the appeal to emotion by pretending it’s a bunch of kids in a playground.
-
Are you fucking illiterate?
-
Lack of basic morals is more than enough reason to call worthless scum worthless. Are you worthless scum getting riled for being called out? Because that’s what it seems like.

So you’re admitting you’re an old dude like some of us who decided whining about a video game is a good use of their time and effort? Act your age. You’re children are likely embarrassed by your behavior if you have any.
If you don’t have children, it is likely because you silver locked in life, perhaps play some competitive social experiences and see people to improve your chances and rank up. :^).
Trying to call everyone worthless who calls you out for your garbage takes reveals a lot about you, are you seriously going to pretend that CSGO players are all old or even adult?.. You know what, I will take your advice and just block you cuz you don’t seem like someone I want to interact with again!

Complaining about a video game shows a lack of basic life skills and indicates you are completely worthless, and probably a drag on society.
See how easy that is?
Non sequitur, there is no connection between the two things you link. There is, however, a direct link between finding cheating acceptable and, surprise, finding cheating acceptable.
Hilarious, the idea that you want to describe someone commenting on your lemmy whine parade as a cheater tells me that you’re likely a “BROO I WAS BEHIND A WALL, HOW DID HE NOT DIEEEEEE, WAHHH” sort of gamer.
Your eyes would matter if your eyes were able to see absolute truth. Can you see and say 100% that every game has a cheater? No, because you aren’t looking at nine other computer screens at once and objectively able to observe that each person is guilty or innocent.
Sounds like a skill issue to me bro.
Are you braindead? I don’t need to confirm anything more than one cheater to know there is a cheater – your argument doesn’t follow.
Provide proof, otherwise, it’s irrelevant.
You haven’t confirmed anything, just bitched and moaned.
Fucking open twitch, you bald dry-nosed monkey
