I just want to say, I have only passing knowledge of Warhammer. Like what you would get if you were a science major and slept through Econ Policy.
My friend is a mega nerd about the lore however, and I send him all your memes. He loves them. Keep up the Good Emperor’s work.
If you want to know…
This particular meme is building up the realization that this Sisters of Battle monastery has fallen (that is, turned away from the Emperor) to Slaanesh (the Chaos God of Excess).
It’s not especially alarming that they are enthusiastic about killing Eldar; in the Imperium you’re supposed to hate aliens, and having a fixation on one type in particular isn’t that weird… but is something Slaanesh approves of in this case. The Eldar (accidentally, through a level of galaxy-spanning decadence that would make Caligula blush) created Slaanesh, but not all of them worship him and he and his followers really fucking hate the ones who don’t. (The ones who do are called Dark Elder, and they’re … psycho space elf torture clowns? Yeah, about like that.)
Slaanesh’s sacred number is 6. Compulsively repeating it in their prayers is a very serious sign of corruption especially since it doesn’t mean anything else; it’s not special to the Emperor in any way. (Coincidentally, I used his name exactly six times in this writeup.)
Showing a lot of skin out of their armor is friggin’ weird for a Sisters of Battle monastery, because they’re basically warrior nuns. On it’s own it wouldn’t necessarily mean heresy, but combined with everything else it paints a grim picture.
And then they wear slutty armor and their incense is drugs. Yep, that has Slaanesh written all over it. You’re eyeballs deep in heresy, kid; run while you can.
That last panel is tinted because basically everything to do with Slaanesh tends to be a really nauseating combination of purple and pink, including the Emperor’s Children, his personal Chaos Space Marines legion. They paint their power armor purple and pink with gold trim. It’s every bit as extra-as-fuck as that sounds, kinda hurts to look at, and is exactly how their god likes it.)
I love the explanation. I’ve noted that fans write explanations like this in a similar manner. Turns of phases, specific details, that help teach the lore to uninitiated.
I thought Slaanesh was female, and didn’t know the Eldar created him.
Slaanesh can be either; it’s easier to just pick a pronoun and stick with it. Slaanesh themself doesn’t care.
So kinda like Yivo From Futurama
Yivo is the lover of all beings, male and female. But Yivo has no gender, thus Yivo has proclaimed that instead of “he” or “she,” we are to use the word “shklee.” And instead of “him” or “her,” we are to use the word “shklim,” or “shkler.”
Thats awesome. Thanks for taking the time to explain it so well.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the kind words.
Ditto, I learn more from Grimdank than picking up a codex
Uh huh, and where would one find this monastery?
For research and purging purposes, right?
Purging is a funny name for it but yeah, sure.
