Tom Seaver was a well-known baseball pitcher in the 70’s, and 1978 was the year he threw a no-hitter.
I’m a millennial so Garfield has always been around during my lifetime. I remember seeing the comic strips and watching the cartoon as a kid. I think I even had a collection of the comic strips at one point. But they make a lot more sense to me now as an adult than they ever did as a child, even this one which has a reference I would have no way of guessing at.
They’re a lot less funny to me now than when I was a kid. Actually they’re not funny at all now, but there was a period in childhood when I thought they were hilarious.
Might be partly because I have a cat now and didn’t as a kid but it’s almost like they’re anti-comedy. So unfunny it almost boggles the mind as to how they were produced and became so popular.
Did I see Garfield killing some old man?
Garfield has no conscience.
