Maybe that has more to do with using the r-slur that dehumanizes disabled people when used in that manner and that most of us understood to phase it out two decades ago than anything having to do with a neutral word to describe heavy topics.
We donāt allow that insult as it breaks rule #1. There are better words to use that do not insult an innocent group of people with its use.

Not really a comment on your overall comment (youāre spot on) but ā in case you didnāt know ā just a heads up that both moron and imbecile were both clinical terms that used to be used by psychiatry to classify mentally disabled people (like the r-slur, the public caught wind, eventually, and started using them as a general disparagement for stupidity).
Not saying you should do anything with that information (some people prefer using words with their present definition, regardless the history of said words, and, unlike the r-slur, I think most people today have no idea of that history) but I just wanted to mention in case you didnāt know and would want to know.

Honestly I sorta figured since most insults necessarily compare someone to a percieved bad thing. Active slurs are a step up from that, usually, and so Iām perfectly happy to avoid them and if thereās something thatās just a bit too direct even if itās lost most of its original connection, like certain words based on the āGypsyā root, Iāll also take steps to avoid them.
If we soften the way we express how we feel about their actions and use less offensive wording the conservatives will surely look at science and stop denying global warming and stop their fascist actions! Please self censor any harsh negative comments! Write nicely to the enablers! Donāt even call them sheep even if they do
Using it gains nothing, but does alienate people with disabilities from wanting to join the cause if they feel itās filled with people who use their disability to denigrate others. There is genuinely nothing to gain from using it over other insults, it only results in a net-loss.
