False balance, known colloquially as bothsidesism, is a media bias in which journalists present an issue as being more balanced between opposing viewpoints than the evidence supports.



Well, that’s why it’s called false balance. They claim (often in bad faith) they’re providing “fair and balanced” coverage of an issue, when their framing in fact puts a finger on the scale.
