It took me a moment to understand this, so I’ll explain the joke in case someone doesn’t get it.

In a cuckoo clock, when the bird comes out, it opens the door. This joke is about the unintended consequence for a fly who is just in the area and gets smashed by the door.

I had actually realized something that might have made the joke funnier after I wrote the comment, and so I was expecting them to say:

It was 12:00, so it might have gotten smashed 12 times.
Our cuckoo clock was pretty smart (and all mechanical gravity and bellows powered).
