According to Xiaomi’s CEO, it is a heavily modified Android and Vela (Xiaomi’s IoT OS based on the open source embedded OS Nuttx) to replace MIUI in all Xiaomi mobile, auto, and intelligent home products.

I wonder how many highly paid marketing executives it took to come up with that name.

Unfortunately it works. Consumers are dumb. The HBO show The Wire covered this, the drug dealers were losing customers because of low quality product. They rebranded so they could continue selling the same crap. This tactic works. Comcast did a real life version of this in the US, year after year they were rated as one of the worst ISPs, they rebranded as Xfinity and people seemed to stop complaining.

Probably need even more tightly knit ads in the OS.

i hope that miui eu devs will also jump to hyperos.

miui eu is so so much better than bloated global roms… and this is my go-to custom rom everytime i replace my Xiaomi smartphone.

I just got my bran new Xiaomi 13T Pro 12/512 today. Man MIUI sucks, I was so looking forward for this phone, because the hardware is very cool IMO.

But between the crapware you can’t uninstall, and generally bad software decisions, they manage to create an absolute horror show of an experience.

How the f… did they think this crap was a good idea? I’m seriously planning to return it.

My 3 year old Moto G9 Power that cost only 1/3 of what this shit show cost, had a better user experience!!!

I have absolutely confidence “HyperOS” will be shit too. This is a serious software management problem, that will 99.9% sure carry over.

Thank you I might look into that. 👍 😀
I was pretty annoyed that day, and had actually decided to return it, and had reset it to factory defaults.
But a good nights sleep made me reconsider, and the next day I tried again, this time knowing most of what I needed to do. So I finally managed to configure it much more to my liking, and have decided to keep it.

I’m actually glad that you allowed yourself to let the first reactions subside, found a way to customize system to your liking, and gave MIUI another chance. I’ve heard MIUI users everywhere say ‘shit MIUI,’ but it seems to my luck that I’ve never been able to understand why. Though, as soon as I got my Poco, I immediately flashed Xiaomi eu ROM (which is essentially the original Chinese MIUI version with all the its features but with ads removed), and I’m really satisfied. MIUI is feature-rich, and to have some of those on some other Android/ROM, you’d need to install additional apps.

With this tool, I uninstalled about 40 apps and disabled around 10 (in settings you can choose to uninstall or disable).

And if you’re rooted or have Shizuku, there are other methods to do this directly from the phone. For example, AppManager is my favorite

            Hi [deleted] 😆
I’m reluctant about custom ROM, because I bricked an LG G2 way back.

all the its features but with ads removed

Are you sure it’s actually all features? Like including for instance Leika optimizations?
In my experience some of the optimizations are lost with custom ROM.

            PS:
I just got notice from game center, that a duck is hungry, and I should feed it. So I may have to use the program you linked to, to avoid more of that.

I installed the “Universal Android Debloater GUI” and uninstalled game center, the “real” name though is “com.xiaomi.glgm”, IDK why we can’t see those things in app info on Android. either the file name or the real app name. Maybe it’s possible to see elsewhere?

Hey, it’s not that easy to brick phones with Qualcomm processors because there are many resurrection methods, so congratulations. I hope you recovered aftr losing your phone because it didn’t 😭

Hmm, I don’t have a phone with Leica lenses, so I don’t really know, but if you’re interested, I believe someone has already discussed it on the xiaomi.eu forum.

Yes, that’s one of the drawbacks. However, you can find the app package name quite easily by long-pressing the icon of the desired app on your phone, then tapping on App Info, and finally on the ℹ️ icon for additional information.

I saw that there is a way to remove system apps as you envisioned using the Canta app in combination with Shizuku app. But I’ve never personally tried this method.

                so congratulations.

Yeah that one was on me being stupid. And it didn’t prevent me from buying an LG 4 afterwards.

you can find the app package name quite easily by long-pressing the icon of the desired app on your phone,

Yes, but it doesn’t say the file name, which is what the ADB uninstall tools use.

I ended up returning it, it showed one advertisement too many (premium wallpapers!), and security center can’t be uninstalled. I don’t want to use custom ROM anymore, If I plan to have a phone for 3-4 years, I’ll have to go through the hassle again to upgrade.

Too bad really, because the hardware was amazing, and it worked well apart from the bad MEUI decisions and shenanigans.

Do you know, does this “universal” method work for AndroidTV, e.g. Xiaomi Mi Box S 4K, too?

The only downside in chinies product is that they’ve the ability to copy & mass produce. But they don’t have a plan to compete & sustainability for long-term users.

After renaming the UI, now it’s the time to target new customers & try to build a loyalty with them.
