I’ve been looking for a 3-row SUV that isn’t gigantic. I’d like to have 2 (or 3) extra seats when the need arises, and I can fold them down for great cargo space when not using them. The Toyota Highlander seems to be the best balance between size and reliability, but being around 44k with some Grand Highlander trims actually being cheaper isn’t really a good deal. The best bang for buck I’ve seen is the Kia Sorento (35k), but it’s a Kia (I owned a Soul and the kiaboyz trend made me swear not to buy from them again).

Anyone have recommendations for a compact 3-row SUV?

We are happy with our VW Touran for exactly this reason. Unfortunately, minivans seem to be a dying category.
